Also, WWX doesn't get painted with the protection from censorship on not allowing morally gray characters. It's not explicit sex, but the romance is there and not hidden. The audio drama, in my opinion, is hands down the best adaption of the novel and it's easy to visualize the actors in it because the voice actor who dubs Wei Wuxian in the live action also does the voice in the audio drama.Īlso, the audio drama isn't censored like the live action or donghua. If you love the live action, I recommend the audio drama and donghua.

Oh and kudos to the wig and hair department! For me it doesn’t matter how impeccable the costumes and sets are, if the hair pieces look off I’m out lol. In fact, I like that both portrayals had feminine AND masculine qualities. It was just two young men who found each other and became deeply in love with each other. What I love about the series is that they didn’t resort to heteronormative tropes of masculine versus feminine, husband/wife, top/bottom etc. I haven’t read the book or seen the animation. I know Xiao Zhan is seen as the main draw but I couldn’t take my eyes off of how WYB portrayed LWJ. I am aware of the limitations due to censorship laws, which to me made it that much more compelling their abilities to ooze chemistry. It’s obvious they felt deeply connected to their characters and it translates amazing on camera. Both very attractive actors who light up the screen. The series has a lot of strengths but I think hands down its biggest selling point is the undeniable chemistry between Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. But the thumbnail on Netflix caught my eyes because, well, the two MLs are gorgeous.
I’m sort of disconnected from Asian pop culture, and tend to have too much ADHD to sit through series lol.
For whatever reason I slept on The Untamed and just finally watched the entire series last week.
